The ML7204-001 is a speech codec specifically developed as an analog front end for communication equipment supporting VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). It performs compression and expansion in G.711 format featuring high sound quality and in G.729.A format featuring a high compression rate. It is provided with a PLC (Packet Loss Concealment) function for further improving voice quality. In addition to a two-channel analog interface, the ML7204-001 supports parallel bus type DMA transfer and frame transfer as well as serial bus type data transfer as interfaces with processors, allowing easy functional expansion to support multi-channels.
Since the ML7204-001 is also provided with an echo canceller having a delay time of maximum 32 ms, it can cancel not only line echoes in SLIC connection but also acoustic echoes when hands-free conversation is supported. Furthermore, the ML7204-001 is equipped with an FSK signal generator and a detector for implementing the caller ID function. Additional functions include a tone detector which can detect CED tone in FAX communication, serving to disable the echo canceller during non-voice communication. In addition, the ML7204-001 is provided with a DTMF tone detector, various tone generators, and conference call function. This is an optimum LSI for adding VoIP capabilities to Terminal Adaptors, routers, and business phones.
